The 1/2 point

Well, I am at the halfway point of my 2nd double shift. Now I just need to figure out when I want all these people to pay me back. So far I have one lined up for a wedding this summer, but I still have 2 shifts left to take. I am trying to co-ordinate one with Tom to come ride with him on his truck in Atlanta, but that still leaves 1 left. I am thinking of trying to do it soon just to have a few days off. I had hoped to do it May 23rd, but the guy wasn't able to do that. That day was a Friday, and the following Monday may work instead. Who knows, no biggie, it'll all pan out in the end.

We didn't do much today, we are in the midst of a big upheaval on our retirement program. They are floating the idea of a new program, but we would have to give up a % of our pay to 'buy' the program. In the example they gave it would cost $46,000+ over the course of my career, but I would come out ahead in the long run. For the guys who are retiring the next 5 years or so, it is a steal, but essentially I would be funding their retirement. The real problem with it is that there is no guarantee that I won't have to pay more in the future. Without getting too in depth, there is potential for this to either be awesome or a bust, but once you're in you're in, and it is an all or nothing deal; all the police and fire guys have to do it or they stay with the old system. I have until the end of the month to vote, so I'll be passing this on to my numbers people (my wife, my sister and my dad) for their advice. The people really pushing it are the ones that stand to gain the most, leaving those of us who will pay the longest wondering what will happen.

Anyway, I guess that's all for tonight. I may try and post more tomorrow if I get time. Talk to you later.

One of the first rules of economic survival is to pay yourself first!
You are smart to run the options by all those folks you mentioned and get a good idea on what you want to do.
Looking forward to having you come to Atlanta for a visit, hope it is soon.
