Well, I've missed a few days...

Sorry for my absence of late, time just seems to be getting away from me here at the end of the month. I can't believe May has flown by so quickly. First off I want to say thanks for all the phone calls and emails and other forms of well wishing on my birthday, I really appreciated everyone thinking of me.

We went on my birthday to see about trading in April's car, but due to the condition it is in (it needs a new transmission and apparently the AC didn't survive the winter) they weren't going to give us anywhere near what we think they should, let alone what we owe (we had anticipated the car lasting at least 2 years more than it is) so we had to take a pass on trading it just now. We are investigating our options, which are unfortunately somewhat limited. We'll just have to see what shakes out. The transmission went out after the wreck, so I am thinking that the 2 are related, and that if we fix it it will only be a matter of time before it goes out again. Standing on my left, meet my friend rock. To my right is my other buddy hard place. And here I seem to be unable to move my feet. Oh well, such is life.

Yesterday at work we had a bit of fun first thing in the AM. About 8am we got a call from a local office building that they had their fire suppression system discharge and needed out help. It was in a server room, so it wasn't a sprinkler but a dry chemical. The room was sealed, but when we monitored it we found that the oxygen level wouldn't support life (21% is normal, anything under 19% is lethal if you sick around for any length of time, and they were at 18%). The building was evacuated and we set up a series of fans to ventilate the area. It took about 4 hours, but we finally got it done. We also had to check the whole rest of the building to see if it was ok. This meant walking through the whole place in our turnout gear and airpacks with the air monitor to check it out (it was all fine, the chemical was contained in one area). Mom and Dad, it was Cool Springs Commons, the old Service Merchandise building. This place was huge and it took a very long time to do it all. There were a few people who wanted to be evaluated because they were afraid they had been exposed, but for the most part they were fine. There was one lady who I think convinced herself that she was sick and had more of a panic attack than anything, but she went to the hospital just in case. Allergic Reactions (which is what she thought she was having) can be tricky things, so better safe than sorry.

Tonight the beagle and I will be batching it. April is going to a bachelorette party tonight and will be staying overnight, so we will be left to our own devices. I'm taking this as an opportunity to have some brats and sauerkraut since she won't eat it. I imagine there will be a beer or two consumed as well! The beagle is a light weight, but with a belly full of brats she's usually good for two beers. I'm sure we'll let you guys know how our respective parties turn out.

I forgot to mention anything else about my birthday; we did some really good steaks on the grill with some grilled corn on the cob and baked beans. The beans were the Grilling Beans that Bush's make. If you haven't tried them I really recommend then. They are pretty good and come in a few different flavors.

Other than that, not much else to report. Katie, congratulations on winning the baby battle, now your girls have equal numbers to the guys in the house (poor Nash is in for it next time Bryan deploys, huh?). I hope everyone has a good long weekend and I'll talk to you guys later.

PS Sorry I didn't have any pictures or videos this time, it seems like I have been slacking in the visual department lately, and I apologize for that.

Always like to hear tales from the job, they are fun.
Sorry about the car. Have you considered a used or rebuilt tranny to get you through? We have a couple of good reman shops here in Atlanta that can rebuild in the car for about half the cost of replacement.
I know from one of the car shows (filmed right there in your area) that you have some good rebuild places there.
Have a good holiday weekend...

I hope you can work things out with April's car. I have to agree with her, it is cute, but I know that doesn't get her to work!!! I'll keep your dilemma in my prayers. That can never hurt!! I know how huge that building is. I also understand why it took you half the day to go through it. Hope you have a GREAT long weekend. Katie arrived this afternoon and we plan on a shopping and eating festival this weekend. I'll talk to you later. Love ya!!
